Position Overview
The Paint Technician III is a senior-level aircraft paint specialist responsible for performing advanced preparation, application, and finishing work on corporate and commercial aircraft. This role requires expert knowledge of aircraft painting processes, surface preparation, masking, priming, topcoating, and final detailing.
Paint Technician III leads by example on the shop floor, supports lower-level technicians, ensures high-quality finishes, and adheres to all FAA, OSHA, and FlyExclusive quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Paint Preparation & Application
Perform complex surface preparation, including sanding, stripping, blending, and corrosion removal.
Apply primers, sealers, base coats, topcoats, clear coats, and specialty coatings per engineering specifications.
Execute detailed masking for stripes, logos, stencils, and multi-color layouts.
Utilize HVLP spray systems and professional paint booth equipment.
Quality & Finishing
Inspect surfaces and completed work to ensure flawless finish quality and adherence to specifications.
Perform polishing, buffing, touch-ups, and defect correction as needed.
Maintain proper environmental and material controls to ensure paint performance and durability.
Technical Leadership
Provide guidance and mentoring to Paint Tech I & II team members.
Assist Crew Leads and Supervisors with workflow management and project planning.
Train new hires in proper painting procedures, tool usage, and safety practices.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with FAA regulations, OEM manuals, and company SOPs.
Follow proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials per EPA and OSHA guidelines.
Maintain clean, organized, and FOD-free work areas.
Use appropriate PPE and follow all safety protocols in paint booth and prep areas.
Documentation & Communication
Accurately record work performed, materials used, and labor hours in company systems.
Communicate progress, issues, and material needs to leadership.
Support pre- and post-paint inspections with Quality Assurance.
Qualifications
4–7+ years of professional aircraft painting experience required.
Demonstrated ability to perform advanced paint processes with minimal supervision.
Strong knowledge of prep, masking, spraying, blending, and finishing techniques.
Experience with corporate aircraft highly preferred.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, paint schemes, and technical documents.
Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Comfortable working in paint booths, lifts, scaffolds, and confined areas.
Ability to wear respirators and PPE for extended periods.
Work Environment
Fast-paced MRO environment.
Must be flexible to work overtime, weekends, and alternate shifts based on project demands.
