Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Water System Technician to join its team located in Linthicum, MD.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Perform a variety of skilled tasks associated with the maintenance, repair and operation of deionized water and other water treatment systems and equipment.

WORKING PROCEDURE AND/OR RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNED:

PERFORM WORK OF EQUAL OR LOWER SKILL LEVEL AS REQUIRED.

Tasks are varied and often require considerable skill and initiative on the part of the employee to complete assigned tasks.  These tasks are typified by, but not limited to the following areas:

Maintain the processing units within the deionized water and the pH control systems and assure that the function and operating parameters of each major system component such as polishing filters, 1st step neutralization tank, etc. are accomplished.

Use the proper analytical techniques and equipment to test for critical system parameters including but not limited to:  TDS, (Total Dissolved Solids) pH, C1, temperature, pressure, resistivity, T.O.C. (total organic carbon), silica, etc.

Perform the regeneration process within the deionized water system.  Troubleshoot all systems and/or calibrate the various microprocessors, accordingly.

Perform routine and emergency inspection, maintenance and repair of chemicals pumps, control systems, including  microprocessor, pipes, fittings, values, filters, reverse osmosis units, storage tanks, sterilizers, pH probes, analytical equipment, degasifier, monitoring and associated equipment.  Identify any system malfunctions or daily operational problems or variances.

Assure that safe handling procedures and spill cleanup procedures for chemical associated with system operations are performed.  Report any system discrepancies to supervisor and appropriate engineers.  Assist in the familiarization of other maintenance and plan personnel in the various plant water system operations.

Obtain, deliver and  move material, tools and equipment from one location to another, utilizing appropriate material handling equipment such as company vehicles, fork trucks, hand cards, etc. as required.  Perform a variety of routine maintenance functions such as cleaning equipment and facilities, painting, grounds work, lubricating, moving and relocating equipment and furnishings, performing chemical treatment of water systems, visually inspecting equipment and facilities, working on ladders/scaffolding, rigging and the like.

Utilize computerized data management systems as necessary to maintain records on equipment preventative maintenance and repairs.  Report any problems or unsafe conditions to supervision.  Perform other miscellaneous duties which may fall  within the scope of this position.

This is a 1st shift position.

This is an SEA Union Represented position.

Education Requirement:

High school graduate or equivalent with a course in either chemistry, physics or electronics.  Six (6) month’s equivalent experience may be substituted for the required coursework.  Must meet applicable governmental licensing requirements and Safety/OSHA regulations with respect to confined space entry, medical approvals and training on special equipment.

Experience Requirement:

Six (6) years experience as either a deionized water treatment system operator or as a licensed wastewater treatment system operation or six (6) years equivalent industrial electrical and/or mechanical experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties assigned under this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Maryland Industrial Wastewater Class 6 license or ability to obtain within 6 months

- 1 year metal hydroxide precipitate process experience

- 1 year filter press operation experience
