Manufacturing Software Support Engineer
Job Description:

Job Description
Thank you for your interest in BAE Systems! Are you a recent graduate or junior engineer eager to start your career supporting digital engineering software? Do you want to help keep our digital engineering tools running smoothly in manufacturing sites while learning site reliability, software deployment, data management, Agile framework, and advanced Windows troubleshooting? Join us and contribute to the mission of protecting those who protect us by ensuring reliable factory software operations. We need your curiosity, motivation, and fresh perspective on our team.
We are seeking an entry-level engineer to be the first point of contact for the service‑desk, handling tickets to keep our digital engineering software tools running smoothly across North American manufacturing sites. The role offers hands‑on exposure to factory software, opportunities to learn software development, and provides a solid foundation for a career in site reliability and DevOps.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the deployment, configuration, and continuous improvement of software systems for factory operations, including those that interact directly with customers
  • Respond to service‑desk tickets, investigate and resolve issues that affect the operation of digital‑engineering applications in the factories.
  • Monitor basic health metrics (CPU, RAM, storage) on Windows workstations and VMs and report abnormal conditions.
  • Learn and apply fundamental backend development concepts (e.g., Python scripting) to automate simple remediation steps.
  • Document incident details, steps taken, and resolutions in the ticketing system; contribute to runbooks and knowledge‑base articles.
  • Participate in on‑site rotations with factory teams, gaining exposure to physical hardware and the manufacturing environment.

Learning Opportunities
  • Hands‑on training with observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana (basic metric collection and dashboard creation).
  • Introductory experience with automation/orchestration tools like Ansible.
  • Mentorship from senior engineers on service‑discovery, health‑checking, and reliability best practices.

Hybrid:
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform work onsite, some efforts may be (mostly) full-time on-site. Work that can be done remotely will allow for a hybrid working environment.

Job Requirements:
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Required Education & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities; comfortable working in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems (including legacy versions such as Windows 7) and networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with Python or a comparable scripting language is a plus, but not required; on‑the‑job training will be provided.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
