Job Details
The Senior Director, Maintenance Operations, is a leadership role for overseeing all aspects of the Line Maintenance teams across Canada apart from YHM, Maintenance Control Centre, Line Maintenance Planning, Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and Unit Load Device (ULD) Maintenance functions. This role will lead and optimize the entire maintenance operations network to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency across the fleet while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires a strategic, results-driven leader who will collaborate with senior leadership to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, cost optimization, and effective long-term planning.
Job Duties
- Lead and manage the nationwide Line Maintenance teams to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and fleet readiness across all Canadian bases apart from YHM.
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for the department, aligning with the airlines broader goals and objectives.
- Foster a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement across all maintenance functions.
- Ensure the availability and airworthiness of the fleet, minimizing downtime and operational disruption.
- Supervise the Maintenance Control Centre, ensuring proper coordination and oversight of all unscheduled maintenance events, technical issues, and AOG repairs.
- Develop and implement efficient processes to monitor aircraft performance, maintenance requirements, and safety reports.
- Lead the integration of technology and data-driven insights to improve the maintenance control function.
- Oversee the planning and scheduling of all maintenance activities, ensuring minimal aircraft downtime while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Base and Heavy Maintenance team to develop maintenance schedules that align with flight schedules and operational needs.
- Oversee the maintenance and reliability of all Ground Support Equipment (GSE), ensuring that all equipment is in good working condition and operationally ready.
- Work with cross-functional teams to streamline GSE operations, reduce costs, and enhance equipment lifespan.
- Be knowledgeable with all company and Regulatory manuals/documents pertaining to the work performed.
- Actively promote safety and quality within the organization and department by encouraging employee participation in SMS and ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Responsible for your training and the training of the direct reports, ensuring employees remain current with all technical and regulatory training requirements to function in their assigned role.
- Collaborate with other departments to align maintenance priorities with the airlines operational needs.
- Occasional travel may be required to oversee operations at various maintenance bases across Canada.
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours as needed to address urgent operational requirements or emergencies.
- Perform any other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Ensure a clean and safe workplace for all team members.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Deep knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), Transport Canada requirements, and international safety standards.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to drive performance and instill a culture of safety.
- Previous experience in an airline or Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) environment.
- Expertise in maintenance control, planning, scheduling, GSE, and ULD functions.
- Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) certification or equivalent international qualifications.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical mindset with advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Education/Specific Training
- Bachelors degree in Aviation Maintenance, Engineering, or a related field. A Masters degree or relevant industry certifications would be an asset.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in aircraft maintenance or aviation safety, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in aircraft maintenance, engineering, fuel, and de-icing operations.
- In-depth knowledge of Transport Canada regulations and compliance requirements for aviation maintenance.
- Ability to manage large teams, complex operational functions, and multi-faceted projects.
- Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments while ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations.
