Our marketing communications, market research and brand teams drive travelers’ familiarity and engagement with the United brand. Key Responsibilities: The Senior Data Scientist provides senior data science efforts for United’s loyalty program, MileagePlus. Using some of the most comprehensive member data available in any industry, the data science team is responsible for discovering new opportunities to enhance the program and develop innovative products using insightful models that drive business outcomes. This person will be expected to provide the example which other data scientists on the team can follow to better produce outcomes for the business.
Approach Business Problems with Data Solutions:- Communicate on business challenges and opportunities
- Provide insight into current data assets
- Educate collaborators on opportunities to model insights
- Dig into business problems by experimenting with models that will need to be tested and validated
- Refine existing models based on new data resources or changing business environments
Communication:- Express the outputs of data science projects in a format that is understandable to business staff who are less-versed in technical details
- Innovate on critical metrics and provide expert consulting to business partners in collaborative meetings
- Work with technology managers to troubleshoot data challenges
- Develop strong presentation visuals for easy absorption of results
Mentorship:- Provide recommendations to team members on
- Lead by example, documenting success and failures alike in order to build long-term knowledge
- Influence decision-makers and peers alike toward a more data-centric view of problem-solving

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications): - Bachelors degree in business, marketing, or quantitative field (statistics, engineering, analytics, information systems, aviation management, or related degree)
- 4+ years of core data science with bachelors degree in relevant field (Stats, Math, ML) OR 2+ years of core data science w/ Masters degree in relevant field OR Ph. D in relevant field
- Experience working with large datasets for the purposes of statistical analysis such as supervised or unsupervised learning
- Experience with database interface tools and statistical programming languages such as SQL, Python, SAS
- Experience with Python, especially for data manipulation and cleaning, and for model training and evaluation
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):- Masters degree in Statistics, mathematics, or business analytics
- 1+ additional years of experience in - the travel industry, marketing/loyalty studies, or ad tech
- Experience with Reinforcement Learning model(s)
- Experience with Causal Inference
- Experience training and deploying models (with AWS)
- Experience with Pyspark.
- Experience presenting findings to business management
- Experience mentoring on methods for development and evaluation of statistical models
- Experience with Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI, or other visualization tools
