Job Description:

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Manage Internal Audit Program (IEP): Assess department audit effectiveness, advise on best practices, develop audit tools, train managers, and create/execute the annual audit schedule.
  • Manage Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP): Schedule and chair Event Review Committee (ERC) meetings with management and FAA representatives.
  • Manage OSHA Voluntary Audit and Compliance Program: Oversee and maintain compliance.
  • Manage Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (SWPPP): Implement and maintain the program.
  • Conduct Investigations: Determine the need for, and execute, investigations into reported issues, establishing findings and recommendations.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis: Investigate accidents, incidents, and voluntary disclosures, providing recommendations for prevention.
  • Assist in Aircraft Accident/Incident Investigations: Provide independent analysis and input to the Director of Safety.
  • Manage Safety Database (WBAT): Oversee hazard/safety reporting, injury reporting, ASAP, WSOP, and initial risk assessments.
  • Determine WBAT Report Closure: Work with the accountable executive (COO) to decide on report closure.
  • Provide Safety Management Coverage: Act as the safety manager when the Director of Safety is unavailable.
  • Deliver Safety Training: Conduct general safety training for employees.
  • Support Parent Company Reporting: Assist with reporting and database management requirements.
  • Coordinate with Sister Companies: Share best practices and provide support.
  • Generate Safety Reports: Produce monthly safety newsletters, WBAT closeout reports, and ASAP summary reports.
  • Conduct Safety Committee Meetings: Schedule and lead regular safety committee meetings.
  • Communicate Safety Findings: Report irregularities, findings, concerns, and successes to the Director of Safety and relevant managers.
  • Travel to Operating Sites: Conduct on-site safety assessments as needed.
  • Maintain Industry Knowledge: Attend industry forums on Safety Management Systems and WBAT.
  • Perform Other Assigned Duties: Complete additional tasks as directed

Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences including senior level managers, regulatory agencies, contractors, employees, and others.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers, and the public.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand, walk and sit for extended periods
  • Reach horizontally and vertically with arms.
  • Talk and listen.
  • Lifting requirements: Heavy boxes weighing 25 pounds, light office supplies, stacks of paper, and computer printouts.
  • Carts may be pushed loaded with office supplies and/or computer printouts that may weigh 10 to 15 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Most work is performed in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
  • Required to conduct observations and evaluations in other environments such as warehouse, maintenance hangar, outdoor airline ramp, etc.
  • May be exposed to adverse weather conditions, fumes, wet surfaces, and icy conditions.
  • Position will encounter varying degrees of stress throughout the month, including some periods of high stress.
