Summary
Lead an emerging Defense and OEM hardware product line through equal parts strategic vision and focus on daily execution. Expectations are to grow spanet share while meeting and exceeding customer expectations for technical performance, price competitiveness, and schedule while ensuring DRS meets all financial goals. Engaging personality and self-starter that works well with others to build consensus in a functionally matrixed organization to influence key stakeholders across engineering, operations, finance and contracts. Responsibilities are conducted under the guidance of senior level management (Product Line Director, or Line of Business Lead).
Job Responsibilities
• Advise leadership on product category strategies and manage the product lifecycle• Use industry knowledge and experience to implement regular product updates and/or development of new/derivative products to address changing spanet needs/trends• Oversee the product roadmap strategy, identifying opportunities to manage competitive threats and changes in customer needs• Work with a cross-functional team to launch products on time and on budget and drive increased sales • Utilize traditional business case analysis tools/metrics (net present value, payback, instantaneous rate of return, etc.) to garner funding approvals for new product or product revitalization initiatives. • Establish a spanet growth strategy, garner internal support/funding and execute plan to expand sales through comprehensive spaneting and branding, cost reduction initiatives, creation of efficiencies and similar means. • Regularly collect, analyze/synthesize and present spanet data including product specific sales, overall sales volume, and competitive product releases and pricing strategies and recommend spaneting objectives and strategies.• Participate with cost accounting, spaneting management, and other functional areas in the development of pricing recommendations and cost targets using Price to Win and Design to Cost methodologies.• Lead the development of sales forecasts for use in production planning, manufacturing operations and for controlling inventories• Participate in trade shows, technical conferences and industry events, customer and prospective customer presentations and visits, product demonstrations and other similar events by presenting assigned product line(s)• Respond to product-related informational requests from external customers as well as internal departments/personnel and serve as the primary contact for customer service issues pertaining to the product line.• Serve as the primary interface for customers on business discussions as well as initial technical questions.• Keep current on technology and trends of product related knowledge.• Responsible for maintaining and monitoring product performance metrics to include bookings, revenue, profit/loss, cashflow, and operational/spaneting Key Process Indicators (KPIs)• Direct reports are not initially expected but with sufficient spanet growth could result in managing others. • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other related technical fields• 5+ years of related experience, and a minimum of 3 years of experience with direct product management responsibility• Experience in hardware development and/or production is required• Experience with Defense/OEM products (specifically infrared related technologies or products) highly desirable.• Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD clearance as needed, which requires US citizenship• Demonstrated business and technical acumen• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute spanet growth strategies• Thorough understanding of product development and engineering processes• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Demonstrated use of spaneting to build brand awareness• Strong customer relationship and interpersonal skills• Demonstrated business and technical acumen• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
