Job overview and responsibilities

The Manager – Data Analyst – IT is a people-focused leader with a passion for data, analytics with a focus on real-time monitoring. This role emphasizes the importance of developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders across Digital Channels and business partners. A critical aspect of success involves leading, coaching, training, and retaining a talented team capable of transforming data into real-time actionable insights that drive business decisions.
As a leader, you will be instrumental in guiding your team to interpret data from various sources, identify patterns and trends, and present these insights to proactively help identify friction customers face across United.com and mobile app. This highly visible role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to influence change by collaborating with incident management, developers, business analysts, user experience, and product teams.
In addition to people leadership, the role includes supporting data engineering, advising on new feature development, and designing KPIs. You will also oversee the creation of dashboards and automation processes for digital leaders and groups, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.

  • Provide leadership to a 4-8 member team (data analysts and data engineers), coach and cultivate the team at India Knowledge Center
  • Partner with Digital Channel application/systems technology and business partner teams to track new functionality and processes and learn the existing application/systems to identify and communicate timely insights into feature and system performance, define new data collection and analysis processes
  • Design and develop schemas and data acquisition, transformations, and data integration across the various platforms that comprise United’s data strategy
  • Build trusted data products, including dashboards and reporting products, to support Digital Channel leadership that helps them make data-driven decisions from real-time insights into both business functionality and customer experience
  • Communicate and share updates with US and India-based senior leadership, along with putting together regular insight presentations
This position is offered on local terms and conditions. Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded. This position is for United Airlines Business Services Pvt. Ltd - a wholly owned subsidiary of United Airlines Inc.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Data science or another quantitative field (i.e. mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.)
  • 6+ years experience in Data Analysis, Business intelligence, analytics, and data engineering, with 3+ of those years in a Fortune 1000 company
  • 1+ year experience in a leadership/supervisory role
  • Develops and implements predictive/prescriptive data business intelligence
  • Develops streamlined and comprehensive data analytics workstreams
  • Manages and maintains project portfolio for the Digital Channels across United.com and Mobile app.

Areas of focus will include, but are not limited to:

• Predictive and prescriptive analytics
• Data Visualizations
• Reporting and automation
• Intermediate to expert level BI dashboarding experience (e.g. PowerBI, Looker Studio, etc...) to produce meaningful, elegant dashboards.
• Advanced Excel knowledge
• Ability to study/understand business needs, then design a data/technology solution that connects business processes with quantifiable outcomes
• Ability to prepare presentations for senior leadership and interact with all levels of management.
• Strong problem-solving skills, using data to tackle problems.
• Outstanding writing, communication, and presentation skills
• Proven People/Team Management
• Expert level SQL skills
• Hands-on experience working with massive data sets (SQL and Non-SQL)
• Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship.
• Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification.
• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Masters degree in computer science, Information Systems, aviation management or related degree, Operations Research, MBA
  • Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics, Enterprise Data Warehouse certifications, Client-Side performance metrics tools e.g. Quantum Metric
  • 3+ years in a leadership supervisory role
  • 2+ years’ experience working at a Fortune 500 company
  • 1+ years’ experience working at an International location other than home country
  • Previous airline or travel industry experience is a plus
  • Experience with AWS - Redshift, Glue, S3
  • Experience with Big Query
  • Experience with Quantum Metric and Akamai, Technologies and languages: Python, Spark, R, etc.
  • Continuous integration & delivery using Agile methodologies
  • Data engineering experience with transportation/airline industry
