JOB OVERVIEW

The HR Manager reports to the Director of Human Resources and will be responsible for providing a high level of support to our operations teams.  The incumbent will also assist with the company design, development, implementation and administration of activities which will enable the effective and efficient management of human resources in an environment reflective of the company values.  The HR team is centralized in Kelowna but supports all bases.  Our larger bases are supported by local HR Advisors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support for the creation and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies and practices that effectively attract, identify and develop quality talent to meet their operational needs. Recruitment will include position focused, overseas recruitment and job fair strategies.
  • Oversee new hire onboarding and orientation procedures, instituting improvements to streamline the process using advances in technology.
  • Provide pragmatic and consistent advice and coaching to managers and employees. This includes but is not limited to employee / employer relations, attendance, performance management, discipline, hiring and termination and legislation interpretation.
  • Coach and advise employees and supervisors on a wide variety of issues to facilitate high moral and productivity in keeping with the company values.
  • Coach and orient managers/supervisors to HR policies, processes and practices as required.
  • Research and prepare position descriptions, interview questions and assessment criteria for all positions within the company.
  • Support and offer recommendations for companywide programs, initiatives and HR systems and processes i.e. recognition, length of service and health and wellness objectives.
  • Oversee KF’s Disability and return to work management of all staff (LTD & STD).
  • Provide leadership, direction and coaching, including completion of performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • HR Diploma or Business Degree with HR Major with a minimum 7 years of related experience and/or training. Equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Prior leadership experience in a complex business environment.
  • CHRP Certification is an asset.
  • Member of BC HRMA. 
  • Some travel required to support other bases and recruitment initiatives.

COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of Federal Labour Codes, employment law and progressive HR policies and practices.
  • Must have experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet. 
  • Must be highly motivated and self-disciplined.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation skills).
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to collaborate and build trust.

SALARY

The wage band is KF level 13, $93,000-$116,000 annually. The expertise and technical skill level of the candidate is assessed during the selection process for placement within the band. Note: The salary range maximum signifies full job knowledge.
