Position Overview

 

The Structures Lead is a mechanic who is a working member of his/her crew and is charged with the responsibility of leading, directing, assigning, and approving the work of the other members of the crew.  Structures Leads are selected for their technical skills with due consideration for their ability to lead people and accept responsibility.

  

  • Ensure all aircraft parts/components removed from an aircraft in work that are to be routed to all applicable shops are documented by a valid service order and operations number with the work scope properly identified.
  • Responsible for his/her own work and the work of his/her assigned crew and ensure all work is performed within estimated hours.
  • Ensure crew members are professionally trained and qualified.
  • Obtain customer approval on original, additional, and/or revised estimates to accomplish maintenance on the customers aircraft and components.
  • Check work of AMTs prior to Inspection buybacks.
  • Maintain and track budgets as set by the Business Planner or Production Planning Supervisor, communicating problem areas, and resolving any conflicts or discrepancies.
  • Schedule work for assigned crew.
  • Perform toolbox inspections and in-process audits of assigned crew.
  • Participate in aircraft investigations to help find root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Process non-pre-planned documents (non-routines, etc.) within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure Hazmat materials are handled in accordance with Federal and State specifications.
  • Follow all applicable specifications to accomplish a specific task.
  • Determine any additional training needs for assigned crew as needed.
  • Maintain a detailed shift turnover.
  • Take attendance for assigned crew and report attendance in accordance with TIMIS/Payroll procedures.
  • Assist the Business Planner or Production Planning Supervisor in preparing performance evaluations of crewmembers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Ensure self and crew follow all safety procedures and specifications.
  • Execute all required paperwork in connection with assigned normal duties.
  • Use and operate ground support equipment, as applicable and if qualified, in a safe manner.
  • Work with little or no supervision and accomplish assignments with little or no rework.
  • Assist other employees in the performance of their job assignments through coaching, counseling, and guidance.
  • Interface effectively with members of management, other departments, and co-workers.
  • Be authorized to act on behalf of the repair station.
  • Perform other work as instructed by the Business Planner or Production Planning Supervisor, if qualified.       
  • Stand in for Business Planner or Production Planning Supervisor when required and if qualified for that job.

 

 

What you need (Requirements)

       

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate, FAA Airframe certificate, or eligible for an FAA Repairman certificate with Structures limitation.
  • Must provide own tools as indicated on company tool list.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience as an accomplished aircraft mechanic on heavy transport category aircraft or one (1) year previously demonstrated ability within HAECO.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Be able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb steps, and walk for long periods of time. Must routinely work with reference materials/manuals/publications and office supplies weighing less than 25 lbs. and occasionally move and work with materials weighting up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally subjected to noises in excess of 85 lbs.
  • Able to bend, stoop, kneel, and/or stand for prolonged periods of time and climb ladders and/or service stands.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and requires the use of all safety equipment.
  • Must be able to breathe through a full-face respirator.
  • Mandatory participation in the DOT random drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Normal or corrected hearing.
  • Capable of lifting fifty (50) pounds.
  • Minimum visual acuity of 20/40 corrected.

 

 

Preferred

 

  • Previous supervisory experience.
