Nature & Scope of Position
Parts Cleaners in the Cleaning/NDT department are responsible for cleaning individual engine components in accordance with specified procedures as defined in the applicable Pratt & Whitney Canada manual or other documentation for each specific part. Chemical dip tanks and abrasive blasting cabinets are utilized to accomplish these tasks.
Position Accountabilities
Perform the cleaning function using the following processes:
Chemical Cleaning
Clean individual engine components as required by the specific procedure given in the engine manual and/or the Standard Practices Manual
Changing and adding of chemicals as required
Abrasive Blasting
Masking of components prior to blasting with the applicable media
Blast removal of coatings as required by engineering instructions and/or engine overhaul manual
Glass bead peening to remove contaminants and improve surface finish of components
General maintenance of blast equipment
Aqueous Degreasing
Operation of wash unit as well as safe handling of components and chemical during operations
General, light maintenance of all aqueous cleaning equipment
Adding and changing of chemicals as required
Heat Tinting
Operation of bake oven to determine coating acceptability of blades
Heating of blades as required by procedure, for coating inspection
All other duties as assigned that are required to ensure departmental efficiencies
Model behaviors consistent with good quality, health and safety, and environmental management practices.
Qualifications
Minimum grade 12 with related post-secondary education or equivalent work experience
Capable of reading and understanding written procedures and work process instructions
Ability to safely maneuver parts requiring processing (using available hoists) without risk of personal injury or damage to the parts
Good visual acuity, being able to meet the minimum eye test requirements as determined by Company standards
Must be able to comply with company established safety regulations and dress code
Must be willing to work overtime, weekend, holiday and on-call
Must be willing to work shift work
Working Environment
An individual in this capacity must be aware that the position will involve:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently
A combination of standing and walking for long periods of time – frequently grasping and lifting
Repetitive tasks and attention to detail
Personal protective equipment (PPE) required (i.e gloves, aprons, goggles and fitted respirator when required – any other PPE that may be required to perform tasks in the area
Working sometimes in noise, humidity and a dusty environment
Working in a chemical environment
