STS Technical Services is hiring Fabrication Technicians in Greensboro, North Carolina to support aerospace manufacturing projects. Position Overview
The Fabrication Technician is responsible for planning, laying out, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal and machined parts used in aerospace applications. This role requires expertise in operating fabrication machinery, interpreting blueprints, and ensuring precise component fabrication and assembly.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment.
- Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines using scribers, dividers, squares, and rulers.
- Set up and operate CNC fabrication machines, including press brakes, router tables, tube benders, bladder presses, shrinking/stretching machines, and power rollers.
- Shape metal materials using hand tools and forming equipment.
- Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces to meet specifications.
- Perform welding, soldering, riveting, bolting, and bonding as needed to assemble components.
- Install fabricated assemblies into supportive structures following technical drawings.
- Utilize CATIA software to create DXF files for CNC press brakes and router tables.
- Operate heat-treating furnaces and ovens for aluminum alloy processing.
- Conduct quality inspections using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gauges, and Faro Arms.
- Work flexible schedules, including overtime, based on production needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or trade school degree in welding, sheet metal fabrication, or related field preferred.
- Previous aircraft fabrication experience highly preferred.
Skills & Experience
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and production specifications.
- Proficiency in shop mathematics and metal layout techniques.
- Knowledge of design principles, blueprints, and CAD modeling for aerospace applications.
- Experience operating fabrication and machine tools with precision.
- Strong sheet metal fabrication skills required; welding skills preferred.
- Experience using CATIA and Teamcenter software for design and workflow integration.
- Understanding of heat treatment processes for aluminum alloys.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Exposure to equipment noise, heat, cold, dust, and aircraft materials.
- Ability to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, and reach/stretch for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift and handle components safely as required by job duties.
