Position Overview
The Upholstery Technician is responsible for performing high-quality upholstery fabrication, repair, and refurbishment on aircraft interiors. This role supports seat production, soft goods, cabin panels, carpet installation, and custom interior components. The technician ensures all work meets FlyExclusive’s aesthetic standards, safety requirements, and FAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication & Upholstery Work
Remove, fabricate, repair, and reinstall aircraft seat covers, foam, cushions, and other soft goods.
Perform sewing, stitching, patterning, cutting, and assembly of leather, vinyl, and fabric materials.
Refinish or refurbish aircraft sidewalls, window panels, headliners, and other cabin components.
Install new carpets, runners, and flooring materials as needed.
Interior Refurbishment
Prepare surfaces and components for reupholstery, including stripping, cleaning, and fitting.
Perform shaping, trimming, gluing, stapling, and bonding of materials.
Inspect refurbished components for proper fit, finish quality, and alignment.
Assist with removal and installation of interior components inside the aircraft cabin.
Technical Skills & Tools
Operate industrial sewing machines, cutting tables, pattern tools, and upholstery equipment.
Follow engineering drawings, patterns, and design specifications.
Use approved adhesives, fasteners, foams, and textiles safely and correctly.
Quality & Documentation
Ensure all upholstery work meets FlyExclusive standards and customer expectations.
Complete required paperwork and track materials used in maintenance systems.
Support Quality Assurance with inspections and corrective actions as needed.
Safety & Compliance
Adhere to FAA, OSHA, and company safety regulations during all interior work.
Maintain organized, FOD-free work areas.
Properly handle, store, and dispose of chemicals, adhesives, and materials.
Team Collaboration
Work with Interior Leads, Cabinet Technicians, and Paint teams to support overall interior refurbishment schedules.
Communicate issues, delays, or material needs to supervisors promptly.
Support shop improvements and continuous process enhancement.
Qualifications
2–5+ years of aircraft, automotive, furniture, or industrial upholstery experience.
Experience with sewing, patterning, material handling, and upholstery equipment.
Strong craftsmanship and attention to detail in fine-finish work.
Ability to read work orders, drawings, and material layouts.
Comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces.
Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions.
Ability to work in cabin interiors and shop environments.
Work Environment
Fast-paced MRO refurbishment environment.
Must be flexible with overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts based on demand.
