Usability Designer II

Job Description:

DPP is seeking a Usability Designer for an opportunity in Columbia, SC.

Location: Partial onsite (Tues., Wed., Thurs.) in Columbia, SC
Duration: 12 months, contract to hire, W2 position

Position summary:

The Usability Designer will be working with project teams to enhance or build UI interface applications for the business.
The expectation is that they seek to understand the business needs along with IS development goals for the future.
The Designer will be heavily involved in customer interaction for feedback on the applications being built as well as collaborating with the development teams.
The ability to ask clarifying questions, provide recommended approaches and leverage experience is expected.
The Designer will also need to demonstrate the ability to integrate the look and feel between two applications that are tightly coupled but separate.

Required technologies:

Solid experience of Figma UI design tool
Understanding of JavaScript-based applications

Nice to have:

JavaScript development experience
Nodes.js and Vue.js development
This is a bonus if the candidate has these capabilities.

About the team:

The team has an initiative to create a modern UI experience for the business users. This hire will be critical to designing and potentially developing the front-end experience and workflow for the users.
The candidate will be a critical part of the Usability Design of two major UI applications for Commercial Systems. One is constructed and is being enhanced, the other is being initially built. The goal is to design a seamless and consistent user experience between the two applications.
The teams working on these apps are highly collaborative and are striving to achieve a common goal of creating a power user experience for the business partners. Note that if the candidate has development experience, these skills may be utilized as well.

Minimum required work experience:

2 years user interface design experience

Required education/equivalencies:

Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Behavioral Research, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job-related degree;
OR, Associates degree in the above, or other job-related degree plus 2 years of work-related experience;
OR, 4 years job-related work experience (total 6 years without a degree)
