Collins Aerospace Electric Power Systems (EPS), a division of the Power & Controls Business Unit, is seeking a Senior Principal Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC) Engineer with deep knowledge of the EMC discipline, and highly developed technical and leadership skills. In this role, this experienced engineer will be the technical lead on production and new development programs, in charge of the design, development, and qualification activities for a range of products and integrated systems to ensure compliance with EMI/EMC requirements.

Candidate must be able to work on a cross-functional support team and communicate clearly in various review boards both internally & externally.

What You Will Do

  • EMI/EMC engineer will drive development and qualification activities for assigned program/projects and be responsible for the complete EMC compliance process while adhering to technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Review and translate high level EMI/EMC requirements to the system and circuit level.
  • Support hardware and system design efforts (including design reviews) to meet specified product performance for all aspects of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) compliance as per DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and other similar standards and customer-furnished information.
  • Develop simulation models for the analysis of interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity, and circuit/cable interface isolation to mitigate and control conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility threats.
  • Create EMC control plans, guidelines, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Mentorship of junior members of the technical EMI/EMC team and supporting continued development of self and other members of the technical team.
  • Support of EMC Standard Work, identification/implementation of best practices and lessons learned, and sharing this information with the team.
  • Develop and design EMI/EMC test methodologies and test setups and supervise EMC setup construction and system integration into the EMC setup.
  • EMC assessments for design changes, including changes during product development, as well as obsolescence assessments for proposed component replacements for production designs.
  • Support and provide technical coordination for the successful execution of EMI/EMC development/qualification/certification testing, and effectively coordinate activities between cross-functional teams and suppliers as required.
  • Identify project and technical risks and propose mitigation plans to avoid cost and schedule impacts.
  • Identify opportunities and other more efficient methods of performing activities to accelerate schedule and/or realize cost savings opportunities.
  • Must be self-motivated, dependable, willing to solve complex problems, and must have a team-first approach. Excellent communication skills are also required in this role.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to other locations to support setup and test activities. Working extended or off-shift hours (including weekends) may occasionally be necessary to support setup/testing activities and other key customer milestones.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience 

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience working in EMI/EMC engineering, including development of test plans and procedures, test setups and test execution.
  • Extensive knowledge of MIL-STD’s 461/464/704 and DO-160 (or equivalent commercial standards).
  • Experience working with Circuits/Electrical Engineers and Systems Engineers relative to product/system design and EMC compliance.
  • Experience in the areas of design and risk mitigation, and project management.
  • Experience working with LTSpice (or equivalent), Ansys/CST Studio, or other analytical modeling/simulation software used to simulate/predict emissions/susceptibility performance.
  • Experience with test lab equipment including but not limited to receivers, spectrum analyzers, generators, amplifiers and antennas.
  • Technical knowledge of product qualification testing, particularly for aerospace products.
  • Mathematical background and analytical simulation experience

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
