Location Profile:
Headquartered in Irvine, CA, Shur-Lok manufactures fastening systems with superior locking devices for critical requirements including engine module assembly, structural assembly, rotor blade attachment, and aircraft engine shaft and spindle applications. Operations at the Irvine location include CNC Machining, Punch Press, Thread Rolling, Laser Marking, Heat Treating, NDT, and EDM.
Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineering Intern shall support the business in areas of product development; process improvement; daily production support; analyze and interpret technical data (engineering drawings, specifications, purchase orders, etc.); develop tools and other necessary processes and equipment to produce a high-quality product.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Analyze production data and look for trends indicating potential problems and develop solutions.
- Provide process control systems in the form of instructions, standards, data collection, and feedback loops.
- Investigate Root Cause and develop corrective actions as part of the Material Review Board (MRB).
- Update and standardize cost changes in production routing.
- Develop and support continuous improvement projects aimed at optimizing production throughput, reducing costs, and eliminating defects.
Qualifications:
- Current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related fields
- Ability to read documents such as safety rules, operating and manufacturing instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
- Excellent computer skills with expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- CAD software experience (SolidWorks is preferred).
- Ability to analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency and safety.
- Proven high level of creative problem-solving ability.
- Uses Inspection equipment: Calipers, Micrometers.
- Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.
- Must have the ability to reason and arrive at conclusions with minimum help and have a basic understanding of statistics.
