Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.
As a Flight Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for controller design, focusing on achieving desirable handling qualities, disturbance rejection, aerodynamic performance, and mitigating vibration and structural load considerations.
You will build control laws related to effector allocation, failure handling and fault detection, and participate in system level testing, software debugging, and telemetry review. You will develop analysis tools for quantifying stability margins, handling qualities, and control authority in all phases of flight.
You will collaborate with the Loads team, the Performance team, the Rotor Dynamics team, the Powertrain team, and the System Safety team on multi-disciplinary projects. You will also work closely with test pilots to define desirable handling and flying characteristics, participate in mission planning, scenario simulations, and provide in-person support during flight test activities.
