Inflight Standards and Safety Specialist
Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

Supports the Inflight Standards and Safety department and maintains a culture of safety utilizing a Safety Risk Management approach and analysis. Manages and analyzes data information culminating in implementation of policies and procedures for the Inflight team which are standard and efficient in mitigating risk.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Fosters and promotes the Company’s core values with an emphasis on a culture of safety within the Flight Attendant work group, the Inflight leadership team, and the Company.
  • Assists / coordinates with the recruitment, qualification, training, retention and overall success of the Flight Attendant Support Team (FAST) members.
  • Audits records to ensure accuracy of data and all required elements are completed in the electronic database.
  • Participates in Company and external audits as needed. 
  • Conducts unannounced and announced evaluations with FAST OE Instructors, Mentors and Observers to ensure quality assurance within the FAST team.
  • Reviews monthly FAST de-qualification reports to ensure FAST members are scheduled for required training events prior to de-qualification.
  • Actively participates in all appropriate Safety Committees including but not limited to Data Analysis Group Aviation Safety Action Program and the Fatigue Risk Management Program.
  • Collects and analyzes data from various sources, such as incident reports and formal audits to anticipate issues, track and trend deficiencies, and provides recommendations to ensure compliance. 
  • Evaluates workers’ compensation investigative reports to determine if policies and/or procedures were violated and recommends changes and additional training as needed.
  • Conducts outreach and coordination with other areas of Inflight, the Company, Codeshare Partners, and outside entities to ensure a spirit of cooperation, standardization, engagement, and sharing.
  • Administers and assigns e-mail responses for various Inflight mailboxes, ensuring timely responses to Crew Members.
  • Assists with policy and manual reviews and changes as a Subject Matter Expert for all manuals under Inflight Standards and Safety responsibility.
  • Coordinates with Information Technology in development and testing of projects to enhance data management and technology.
  • Reviews, processes and submits payroll for Flight Attendant Support Team members, Company Business, and for other special projects within the Department.
  • Ability to attain and maintain Line Flight Attendant qualification and work as a Flight Attendant as needed.
  • Trains and serves as a back up for the Inflight Standards Manager as needed.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned or required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.

  • Specialty training beyond high school in computer software, data analysis and/or front-line management or equivalent work experience. 
  • At least two years of any combination of auditing/analytical, airline operations, or Inflight training and standards experience. 
  • Requires proficiency with MS Office computer software, with focus on Excel.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, technical writing or related area. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local rules and regulations regarding Inflight and airline operations.
  • Previous airline experience. 
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiar with Sabre CrewTrac and Crew Qualifier systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
            Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write and
            update moderately complex manuals and other correspondence.  Ability to effectively present
            information in one-on-one and small group situations to management, customers, clients, and other
            Associates in the organization.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
            Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
            limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
            diagram, or schedule form.

DECISION MAKING

Makes day to day decisions used to support strategic direction utilizing basic critical decision-making processes which balances risk, return and effectiveness of process.

Able to travel up to 25 of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays and overnight travel.
