Role Summary
The Fuel Controller serves as the sole subject matter expert for fuel-related financial and analytical operations at Alaska Airlines. This individual contributor position establishes the long-term strategy for managing the fuel financial framework for Alaska Air Group and is responsible for significant independent judgment and initiative in overseeing daily fuel financial functions, including forecasting, budgeting, invoicing, reporting, and fuel inventory planning. Additionally, the Fuel Controller will play an integral role in assessing and developing the company’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) strategy.
Key Duties
Lead fuel forecasting and budgeting for fuel operations, supply, and capital spend.
Guide the SAF financial plan to shape the strategies for long-term investments, offtakes, and partner relationships.
Manage and develop SAF Book & Claim, assuring a robust process built with integrity.
Own the analysis for fuel sourcing activities, assuring a rigorous process in all contract and sourcing activities.
Define internal control policies to ensure a robust and accurate invoice review process.
Influence across the company to build business cases for fuel investments and outline opportunities to improve fuel financial performance.
Provides direction on fuel inventory through seasonal and transition periods, ensuring operational readiness and that financial liabilities are effectively managed.
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the broader fuel spanet and oil industry, and the implications for the airline’s fuel financial performance and supply position.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
7 years of experience in finance, aviation, analytics accounting, or audit, with fuel or similar high-value commodity accounting experience.
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Experience with inventory management and principles.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Strong working knowledge of key financial tools such as Net Present Value (NPV), Return on Invested Capital (ROIC).
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal customers and suppliers to build positive relationships and achieve results.
Proven ability to drive change and process improvement.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Minimum four years managing large-scale, complex financial programs with experience in a public company.
CPA or master’s degree with a focus in Business, Finance or Economics.
Experience with Tableau.

Salary Range
$120,400 - $180,600 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
